SFM-10k
It is set for Sunday 6 November 2022 the first step towards the San Francesco Marathon scheduled for November next year. Departing at 9.30 a.m., the streets of Assisi and those of Santa Maria degli Angeli will run the first official 10.2-kilometre race.
This event will not only be a sporting event, but will try to unite running and solidarity in the sign of faith.
About 200 athletes from all over Italy are expected at the starting line on Sunday. There will also be a non-competitive walk of about 3 kilometres, open to families, which will connect Assisi to the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli.
Organisation
The race is organised by SSD Life Running Assisi, under the patronage of Diocese of Assisi - Gualdo Tadino - Nocera Umbra, of the National Office for Leisure, Tourism and Sport of the Italian Bishops' Conference and the city of Assisi and with the collaboration of theVatican Athleticsthe first Sports Association established, and based, in the Vatican City State, a symbol of dialogue with the world sports community.
Athletica Vaticana will also participate in three important moments in their first official sports visit to Assisi:
- At 4 p.m. a visit to the Seraphic Institute is planned to bring a greeting from the Holy Father;
- At 5 p.m., he will visit the Museum of Remembrance, which recalls Assisi's role in helping persecuted Jews during World War II: a section is dedicated to Gino Bartali, 'spiritual captain' of Athletica Vaticana-Vatican Cycling;
- At 6 p.m., the Bishop of Assisi, Monsignor Domenico Sorrentino, will preside over the marathon runner's mass, animated by Athletica Vaticana, in the Sanctuary of the Spogliazione, Church of Santa Maria Maggiore. At the end of the celebration there will be a special moment, dedicated to the blessing of the athletes with their bibs and the marathon runner's prayer.
Roads
The 10.2K San Francesco Marathon will start from Via Benedetto Croce (in front of the Liceo Classico Properzio) and then on to Santa Maria degli Angeli, arriving at the shrine in Viale Patrono d'Italia.
The race will require a change in the ordinary road system for the places affected by the race for no more than two hours: from 9 a.m. to about 11 a.m.
The route of the 10.2K will be marked with road signs two days before the start (Friday 4 November 2022).
