san francesco marathon 2023

info - Race

Dear partecipant

We are delighted to have you with us in this first edition of the San Francesco Marathon. Beyond the excitement and challenge, this marathon is more than just a race to us. It is an event that celebrates the essence of San Francesco d'Assisi, promoting fraternity, solidarity, and respect for nature. To facilitate your access to the starting line, below you will find some instructions for race day.

PRE-START GATHERING

Location: LOWER SQUARE OF SAN FRANCESCO

Time: 8:00 AM - 8:30 AM

ACCESS TO THE PRE-START GATHERING AREA

  1. By Shuttle - Access from Porta Nuova

If you plan to use the shuttle or need to collect your bib and race pack (at Piazza Santa Chiara, in front of the Basilica), you must access from Porta Nuova. The distance from Porta Nuova to the pre-start gathering area is 1.4 km. It's a guided scenic route that will allow you to immerse yourself in the historical beauty of the city and warm up.

  1. By Car - Saba Porta Mojano Parking / Saba Porta Nuova Parking

Assisi offers several parking options, but we recommend two: Porta Mojano and Porta Nuova. Saba Porta Mojano is the largest parking area in Assisi. From here, you can walk approximately 50 meters to Piazza Santa Chiara and follow the guided scenic route to Piazza Inferiore di San Francesco, the pre-start gathering area. Alternatively, by using Saba Porta Nuova Parking, which is right beneath the shuttle drop-off point, you can easily join the guided scenic route towards Piazza Santa Chiara, and then Piazza Inferiore di San Francesco, the pre-start gathering area.

  1. On Foot - Pre-Start Gathering Area

If you have already collected your bib and race pack or prefer not to follow the guided scenic route, you can walk to the pre-start gathering area before 8:00 AM.

Regardless of your chosen access method, we recommend being present by 8:30 AM at the pre-start gathering area as the blessing ceremony for the athletes will commence at that time. Afterward, you will be escorted to the starting point on Via Guglielmo Marconi, which is approximately 150 meters away.

SHUTTLE SERVICE

Departure - From 6:30 AM to 7:45 AM

A shuttle service is available, departing from the finish line area in front of the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli and from the parking area next to the Teatro Lyrick in Santa Maria degli Angeli (2.9 km from the start) from 6:30 AM to 7:45 AM. The shuttle will take you to the entrance of Porta Nuova. From there, you will find the SFM pre-race personnel and be directed onto the guided scenic route that passes in front of the Basilica of Santa Chiara to reach Piazza Inferiore di San Francesco, the pre-start gathering area.

After the Race - Active until 4:30 PM

At Santa Maria degli Angeli, the finish line area, behind the Basilica, you will find shuttles that will transport you back to Assisi in the starting area. The shuttle service is active until 4:30 PM.

OUT-OF-REGION ATHLETES

For athletes coming from outside the region and unable to collect their bib on previous days, delivery (along with the race pack) is available at Piazza Santa Chiara (in front of the Basilica) from 6:45 AM to 7:45 AM.

NOTE: 7:45 AM is the final delivery deadline. After this time, you will not be able to collect your materials.

BAG AND BAGGAGE STORAGE

It is mandatory to use the bag provided in your race pack. For safety reasons, no other bags will be accepted on race day. You should affix the "baggage storage" sticker, which you will find inside your bib envelope, to the bag. This service will be active starting from 6:45 AM. You must hand over your bag to the personnel stationed near the vehicles in the starting area no later than 8:30 AM.

NOTE: Please do not leave valuable items, money, or personal documents inside your bag, as the organization will not be responsible for any losses.

USED CLOTHING COLLECTION

We would like to remind you that there will be containers near the starting area where you can leave your used clothing, which will be donated to charity.

ACCESS TO THE STARTING AREA

The race will start at 9:25 AM (10k), at 9:25 AM (42k), with potential variations only due to technical reasons or TV requirements.

UNOFFICIAL RUNNERS AND BICYCLES

Unauthorized bicycles are prohibited and will be removed from the course by security personnel, just as unofficial runners without bibs will be. Random checks will be conducted from the start and throughout the course.

You can meet your pacer on Saturday afternoon, November 4th, at the San Francesco Marathon Village, located at Hotel TH Casa Leonori in Assisi, Via Giosuè Borsi 11. Your pacer will also be visible at the start with the time goal indicated on the balloon and the jersey.
