Dear participant,

we are pleased to have you with us in this first edition of the San Francesco Marathon. To facilitate your access to the start, here are some instructions for the day of the race.

PRE-DEPARTURE MEETING

Location: LOWER SQUARE OF SAN FRANCESCO

Timetable: 8.00 - 8.30 a.m.

ACCESS TO THE PRE-DEPARTURE MEETING

1. By Shuttle - Access from Porta Nuova

If you intend to use the shuttle or if you have yet to collect your bib and race pack (at TOWN HALL SQUARE) you must enter from Porta Nuova. The distance from Porta Nuova to the pre-departure meeting point is 1.4 km.  It is a guided sightseeing tour that will allow you to immerse yourself in the historical beauty of the city as well as to warm up.

2. By Car - Parking Saba Porta Mojano / Parking Saba Porta Nuova

Assisi is equipped with several car parkshowever, we recommend two: Porta Mojano and Porta Nuova.
The Parking Saba Porta Mojano is the largest in Assisi. From here, you can walk up about 50 metres to Piazza Santa Chiara and then PIAZZA DEL COMUNE with a guided scenic route that will take you to Piazza Inferiore di San Francesco, the pre-departure meeting point. Alternatively, using the Porta Nuova Saba car parklocated just below the shuttle unloading point, you can easily join the guided scenic route towards Piazza Santa Chiara, and then reach Piazza Inferiore di San Francesco, the pre-departure meeting area.

3. On Foot - Pre-departure Meeting Area
If you have already collected your bib and race packet or prefer not to follow the guided scenic route, you can walk to the pre-start meeting area before 8.00 a.m.

Regardless of the chosen method of access, we recommend that you be present by 8.30 a.m. at the pre-start meeting, as the athletes' blessing ceremony will begin. Afterwards, you will be led to the starting point located in Via Guglielmo Marconi, about 150 metres away.

Shuttle service

Departure - From 6.30 a.m. to 7.45 a.m.

A shuttle service is available from the finish area in front of the Basilica of St Mary of the Angels and from the car park next to the Lyrick Theatre of Santa Maria degli Angeli (km 2.9 from the start) from 6.30 a.m. until 7.45 a.m.. The shuttle will take you to the entrance of Porta Nuova. From there, you will find the SFM pre-race officials and will be channelled into the guided scenic route that will pass in front of the Basilica of Santa Chiara and TOWN HALL SQUARE) to reach Piazza Inferiore di San Francesco, the site of the pre-departure meeting.

After arrival - Active until 4.30 p.m.

At Santa Maria degli Angeli, the finish area, behind the Basilica, you will find shuttles that will take you back to the start area in Assisi. The shuttle service runs until 16.30.

Athletes from outside the region

For athletes from outside the region who are unable to collect their bib on the previous days, the bib will be delivered (together with the race package) in TOWN HALL SQUARE from 6.45 a.m. to 7.45 a.m.

PLEASE NOTE: 7.45 a.m. is the deadline for delivery. After this time, you will no longer be able to collect the material.

DUE TO THE HIGH INFLUX OF ATHLETES, IT IS ADVISABLE TO ARRIVE WELL IN ADVANCE.

BAG AND BAG STORAGE

You must use the bag that will be provided in the race pack. For safety reasons, no other bags will be accepted on race day. You will need to affix the 'bag deposit' sticker on the bag, which you will find inside the bib envelope. The service will be available from 7.15 a.m. and you will have to hand the bag over to the attendants of the vehicles positioned in the start area no later than 8.30 a.m.

PLEASE NOTE: do not leave valuables, money, personal documents inside the bag. The organisation will not be liable for any missing items.

USED CLOTHING COLLECTION

Please note that there will be containers near the start where you can leave your used clothing, which we will donate to charity.

ACCESS START AREA

You will be able to enter the barrier-free zone of the start only after 8.50 a.m.or at the end of the athletes' blessing ceremony. For security reasons, you may be checked with electronic devices.

The departure is planned in this way:
at 9.25 a.m. (10k);
at 9.35 a.m. (42k);
followed by Come with Me. 
may vary due to technical reasons or television requirements.

UNOFFICIAL RIDERS AND BICYCLES

Unauthorised bicycles are forbidden and will be taken off the course by security officials, as will unofficial runners, i.e. those without a bib number. Controls will be carried out at all times.

COMPETITION ASSISTANTS (PACER)

You can meet your race assistant (pacer) on Saturday afternoon 4 November (starting at 2.30 pm, with presentation at 4.30 pm) at the San Francesco Marathon Village, at theHotel TH Casa Leonori in Assisi, via Giosuè Borsi 11. It will then be visible at the start with the target time marked in the balloon and the jersey.

CHEMICAL BATHS

They will be placed in the start and finish areas.

RISTORI

There will be eight refreshments along the route (km 5-10-15-20-25-30-35-40), as well as the final refreshment at the finish line. Help us respect the environment, use the containers provided by the organisation.

MAXIMUM TIME AND ARRIVAL

The final time limit is 6.30 minutes from the start. The finish is located in front of the Basilica of St Mary of the Angels. Once past the finish line, the athlete will be handed a medal and will be directed to the next post-arrival area, where he/she will find: the final refreshment area, the massage service (by the University of Perugia, Physiotherapy degree course), the bag depot vehicles and the chemical toilets. For your physiological needs use only the chemical and public toilets located near the finish line and respect the environment. 

RANKINGS, DIPLOMA AND PHOTOS

The rankings and diploma will be available free of charge on the marathon website. GetPica will capture your race moments with many personal photos. After the race you can go to GetPica and choose the photos you want (there is a charge for this service).

WITHDRAWN SERVICE AND MEDICAL ADVICE

For athletes who have to withdraw, a pick-up service (broom) will take them to the finish area.

Before the race, carefully fill in the health data on the back of the bib. An exact indication of illnesses or intolerances will help the doctors and yourself in the event of problems.
